AffaldPlus is an inter-municipal waste management company owned by six municipality in south and west Zealand. We are a major operator within the waste sector and ensure a professional management, in which environmental care and application of ethics go hand-in-hand with financially viable solutions.

We continuously ensure efficient and environmentally friendly waste management at our recycling sites and our plants for collection and treatment of waste.

Moreover, we make a virtue of communicating and entering into dialogues with citizens and companies in order to influence attitudes and behaviour in a direction contributing to a better environment.

Recycling Sites
AffaldPlus runs 19 recycling sites located around the six municipalities. Customers can deliver all sorts of waste, which they themselves sort and place in the various containers at the sites. The waste is sorted in more than 50 different types of materials from cardboard and paper to chemicals and recyclable PVC. If help is needed, our personnel stands ready to lend a helping hand.

When a container is full, it is transported to a recycling company, where it is transformed into new raw materials. Items suitable for direct re-use are sold at our recycling shops.

Annually, we service about 2.5 million customers at our recycling sites and shops and handle approximately 190,000 tonnes of waste and recyclable materials.

Recycling Shops
At our seven recycling shops, we give everything from clothes and bags to household items and building materials a second chance. All items are either delivered as waste by customers at our recycling sites, or they are later on dogged out of the containers by one of our recycling supervisors.

Shopping at our recycling shops means you are contributing to save resources and reduce a large amount of waste and CO₂ emissions each year. In 2024, we gave a new lease of life to 2,000 tonnes of waste.

AffaldPlus and, thus, our recycling shops are municipally owned. This means that you are in fact a joint-owner, if you live in one of our six municipalities.

Transfer and Bailing Site
At our transfer and bailing site in Næstved, we bale paper, cardboard and plastics into big bales – just like pressing straw into bales. Thus, we are able to transport big amounts of waste without taking up too much space. The transfer and bailing site sends waste on to the companies that produce new raw materials out of the waste.

Waste-to-Energy Plant
AffaldPlus runs one waste-to-energy plant located in Næstved. We annually convert 130,000 tonnes of waste – 19 tonnes an hour – into electricity and district heating.

Naturally, we take care not to pollute the air with flue gas. In order to guarantee that emission limits are met well within the acceptable margins, filters and other equipment ensure that the quantity of pollutants in the flue gas is next to zero before coming out of our 85 metres high chimney.

Landfills
It continuous to be our target to reduce the amounts of waste for landfilling to an absolute minimum. Currently, approximately 4 % of the total amount of waste ends up at our two landfills located in Forlev and Faxe.
